Corporate Orienteering is one of our most popular programs and it is flexible enough to be run as a team building or incentive activity.

This week we ran an event for 65 people on our coolest course yet. Based at Scenic World in the Blue Mountains, teams had to track down about 25 checkpoints using GPS units, compasses, walkie talkies, and aerial maps.

To access the checkpoints, groups used the Skyway, Scenic Railway, and Cable Car at Scenic World. These rides provided stunning views of the 3 Sisters, Katoomba Falls, Orphan Rock, and the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park. Our international guests were amazed at the sites.

Corporate Orienteering is a points based activity and teams visit as many checkpoints and complete as many other challenges as possible, in a set time frame. A $1000 prize for the winners kept the teams interested.

After the scoring deadline, our guests enjoyed a lunch while we tallied team totals. The presentation ceremony took place at a historic pub in Central Katoomba.

Congratulations to Team 1 “The Kangaroos” with a winning score of 498 points.

…is filling up fast for the rest of the year.

October-December is the busiest time of year for corporate events and we are blocking out plenty of dates in the calendar. October being exceptionally busy.

We have already had to turn down a few requests. If you’re keen to use Adventure for Life for a team building, incentive, Christmas Party, or adventure activity, we do need a reasonable lead time during peak season.

With only three Fridays in December before Christmas, sourcing venues, entertainment, and activities at this year’s Christmas party is going to be harder than normal.

Now is the time to start locking things in.

Blue Mountains World Heritage Area
Cradle Mountain: A challenging all day climb.

If your company needs some blue sky thinking, inspiration, or creative solutions to complex problems, meeting in a stunning location on the edge of the wilderness can be incredibly productive.

Delegates genuinely appreciate getting back to nature and they become more productive, engaged and creative at their next conference session.

The following six venues have stunning wilderness experiences just beyond the conference door.

1. Lillianfels. This 5 star hotel overlooks the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains 90 minutes from Sydney. Take a simple walk along the escarpment and just enjoy the views. For the more adventurous, hike down into the valley and ascend back to the venue via the Giant Staircase. For the really adventurous, go canyoning down a narrow watercourse in the valley.

2. Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge: offers all the luxury expected of Peppers properties, and it’s right on the boundary of Tasmania’s World Heritage area. The region offers amazing hiking, paddling, and canyoning. Cradle Mountain is Australia’s best single day mountain climb that will give delegates a genuine sense of achievement at the summit.

3. O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat: backs on to the Lamington National Park which gained World Heritage Status in 1994 in recognition of its high biodiversity. It’s 2 hours from Brisbane’s CBD, has all the conference necessities, and a great range of nature based adventure activities.

4. QT Falls Creek: is Victoria’s premier venue in the High Country. Winter is all about skiing while summer offers paddling, hiking and biking opportunities. It’s a great place to meet and get away from all the distractions of the city.

5. Freycinet: on Tasmania’s East Coast is a genuinely special place. World class hiking and sea kayaking provide a great break for delegates. The walk to Wineglass Bay, while tough, is stunning. Pick from Saffire Freycinet or Freycinet Lodge. Both are superb venues. And then there is Tasmania’s incredible food!

We’ve just launched a new venue finding service.

After delivering team building and adventure activities from nearly 100 properties, we are using our strong knowledge to find the perfect venue for a client’s next conference.

It’s free, fast, and saves the client time, energy and money.

Last month our guide Jack Taylor passed his advanced first aid exam. This allows him to take on some new roles in the adventure activities area.

Adventure for Life owner Iain Lygo also upgraded his first aid qualifications and is now an internationally recognised Wilderness First Responder. This course teaches students how to give advanced and extended patient care in a wilderness area.

Students also learn to give injections, wound care, and even how to create a traction splint for a mid shaft fractured femur out of camping equipment.

If you plan to take your team beyond an hour from definitive medical care on a hike, mountain bike ride, overnight camping or a cross country skiing tour, insist at least one of the guides is a wilderness first responder.
